Instructions

In order to prepare for teaching this summer, there are five sets of questions.

There are sections related to the Bible lesson, Mission Story, verses and truths you should know.

Pace yourself – perhaps one set a week. It will give you a chance to think about what you are learning.

Find a quiet place to sit down with your Bible and the Mission story text. You can download the lesson texts. Check with your local director for the full text.

If you need to leave before you have submitted the form, click the "Save" button at the bottom of the page. An email will then be sent with a link to return for you to return to it and continue.

Bible Lesson 2 - Mephibosheth
I. Read the Bible passage through at least three times and record your observations.
1. Read the passage straight through. Summarize your thoughts and impressions.
2. Read the passage a second time and list all of the characters mentioned. Take a few minutes to think about the characters and list some of the feelings they probably experienced during the story [fearful, skeptical, sad, ecstatic, ashamed, proud, embarrassed, angry, etc.]
3. Answer the study questions based on the scripture

Scripture: 2 Samuel 4:4; 5:1-5; 9:1-13
A. Read the Bible passage through and write down your thoughts and first impressions.*
B. Read the passage a second time and list the characters mentioned.

Think about the characters and list some of the feelings they probably experienced during the story [fearful, skeptical, sad, ecstatic, ashamed, proud, embarrassed, angry, etc.]. Also consider descriptive action (quickly, immediately, came near, etc.)
List the characters and their emotions and actions. Add a new row for each emotion or action. Be sure to save your responses before going on to the next question*

Base your answers on scripture
1. Who was Mephibosheth’s father? Who was his grandfather?*
2. How did he become lame?*
3. King David remembered the covenant or promise he had made to Jonathan years before. What was that promise? (See 1 Samuel 20:14-17, 42.)*
4. Why would Ziba know about Mephibosheth?*
5. What might have gone through Mephibosheth’s mind as he came before King David? *
6. What had Mephibosheth done to deserve all that David offered him?*
7. Why was David showing kindness to Mephibosheth?*
8. What have you done to deserve the salvation that God offered you? Why should you show God’s kindness to others?*
9. What are some things you could do this week to show God’s kindness to others?*
10. How was Mephibosheth’s life turned around?*
11. How has God’s grace (kindness) changed your life?*
12 It seems that in Bible times people kept their promises no matter what it cost them. In our society promises are easily made and easily broken. What does God’s Word say about keeping promises? (Please include references.)*
