  • All volunteers are required to read, complete, sign, the Child Safe Code of Conduct below.

Rotarians would be expected to have undertaken these activities as part of the annual update as arranged  by your Youth Protection Officer, but if you haven't, please do so.

    Child Safe Code of Conduct
District 9660 as a member of Rotary International, is committed to creating and maintaining a safe environment for all youth who participate in Rotary activities. Rotary members, their partners and volunteers must ensure the safety, participation and empowerment of all young people with whom they come into contact and protect them from harassment and physical, sexual and psychological abuse.

As a Rotarian and/or volunteer, I am responsible for promoting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people during this event.

    I will:

    • Treat children with respect and be a positive role model.
    • Communicate in an age appropriate and realistic manner.
    • Ensure communication is always culturally appropriate and empowers children.
    • Ensure all correspondence to a child is copied to the parents or responsible adult.
    • Follow the specific behavioural and interaction boundaries for this activity as communicated by the leader.
    • Seek the child’s approval prior to any physical contact. This may occur when demonstrating an activity or a child is injured.
    • Be willing to listen and respond appropriately to a child’s views and concerns.
    • Respond quickly, fairly and transparently to any complaints made by a child or related to a child. Enlist the support of another leader.
    • Abide by my reporting obligations as outlined in the District 9660 Youth Protection video

    I will not:

    • Be alone with a child in any situation
    • Subject a child to any form of corporal punishment, social isolation, immobilisation, sexual suggestion, offence or misconduct.
    • Direct or condone inappropriate or suggestive behaviours.
    • Communicate with a child in ways that are likely to humiliate or distress the child.
    • Use tobacco products, vapes, drugs or alcohol at any time while working with children.
    • Develop any ‘special’ relationships with children that could be seen as grooming or favouritism such as the offering of gifts or special privileges.
    • I will not participate in any form of social media with children during or post event.
    • Provide any personal care assistance without the child’s permission and having another adult present unless it an emergency.

I agree to abide by this Child Safe Code of Conduct.

I also declare that I have watched the District 9660 Youth Protection video
