Overview and Instructions
This assessment tool is designed for Senior Leaders who want to baseline their current AI readiness status, as measured against leading AI Maturity Models. The TPC AI Maturity Model, as illustrated in the diagram above, is a proven tool utilized by numerous organizations worldwide.
We will cover many aspects of your business, which will take approximately 10 minutes. When answering these questions, it is essential to be honest with yourself about your current status. Being overly optimistic with a rating will skew your results and not provide you with a clear coherent baseline of your AI status. (The truth will set you free!)
You will be asked several questions in each of the seven Assessment Category columns. For each question, you will rate your current company status from 1=Non-Existent to 10=Exceptional.
Score 1–3: Emerging / Ad Hoc
What it means: AI has not been considered or or just discussions are taking place.
- Leadership & Planning: No formal AI strategy or vision. Any AI work is sporadic, siloed, or experimental at best.
- People & Partnerships: No team, no external partnerships, limited/no capabilities.
- Processes & Tech: No defined processes; no infrastructure or tools.
- Data & Governance: No architecture, minimal data control, no governance, no security.
- Culture & Adoption: Leadership uninformed or uninterested; workforce untrained; no cultural shift.
- Results & Compliance: No measurement of outcomes; AI isn’t in production, and there’s zero awareness of regulatory/ethical implications.
Score 4–7: Developing / Managed
What it means: The organization is building structure around AI—some strategy, goals, and moderate capability, but still maturing.
- Leadership & Planning: A formal AI strategy exists (a few articulated objectives, partially communicated).
- People & Partnerships: Some internal skill or teams; initiating key partnerships.
- Processes & Tech: Basic workflows in place; investing in platforms/tools; some testing and quality controls exist.
- Data & Governance: Data architecture in early stages; some security/privacy protocols; initial governance frameworks.
- Culture & Adoption: Leadership supports AI but inconsistently; pockets of adoption and training underway.
- Results & Compliance: AI used in some production systems with basic monitoring; measuring early-stage business value; some oversight on ethical/regulatory risks.
Score 8–10: Advanced / Optimized
What it means: AI is a core competency—robust, enterprise-wide, governed, and producing a measurable impact.
- Leadership & Planning: Clear, organization‑wide AI vision; strategy tightly aligned with business objectives at the senior leadership level.
- People & Partnerships: Strong, cross-functional AI Center of Excellence; formalized partnerships and talent programs.
- Processes & Tech: Well-defined and optimized workflows; platforms/tools fully integrated with strong testing and quality assurance.
- Data & Governance: Mature data architecture, strict security/privacy, comprehensive governance, and auditing.
- Culture & Adoption: AI embraced as the cultural norm, widespread adoption, and a continuous learning environment.
- Results & Compliance: AI systems deliver consistent, measurable value (ROI/KPIs); mature deployment monitoring; full compliance with ethics, legal, and regulatory standards; transparent and unbiased.
